A heart given to Khatyn

09.01.2026

On January 8, 2026, the anniversary of Artur Zelsky's death, a memorial service was held at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in memorial complex “Khatyn”. The service was attended by Artur Zelsky's family, friends, and colleagues.

On the same day, a temporary exhibition, "A Heart Dedicated to Khatyn," opened in the lobby of  memorial complex “Khatyn” museum. It is dedicated to the memory of Artur Zelsky, a PhD in history, author of books and articles, creator of memorial complex “Khatyn” museum concept, and a man who brought his best self for many years to the development of the memorial.

The exhibition features photographs, books, and congratulatory telegrams. A special place in the exhibition is occupied by Artur Zelski's painting "The Unconquered Man," which is being shown to the public for the first time. This work, created at 16, reveals another facet of the future historian's personality.

Artur Zelsky took over memorial complex “Khatyn” in 2010. During his tenure, Khatyn Church was rebuilt, a cross was erected, the memorial complex was reconstructed, and a new museum was built. He personally developed the concept for the museum, which opened on March 22, 2023, incorporating his scholarly experience and deep understanding of history.

For his significant contribution to preserving historical memory, Artur Zelsky was awarded Francysk Skaryna Medal, as well as honorary certificates from the management of various government agencies.

On the exhibition's opening day, visitors were shown a video recording of one of Artur Zelsky's last tours of the museum and memorial complex “Khatyn”. For many, this was a touching moment, allowing them to hear his voice once again and experience his approach to his life's work.

The exhibition "A Heart Given to Khatyn" will run from January 8 to February 8, 2026, in the lobby of  memorial complex “Khatyn” museum. It is open to anyone interested in learning more about the museum and the man whose heart remained forever with Khatyn.
