A unique exhibition, "Leonid Levin. Moments," has opened in Khatyn

24.07.2026

On July 24, 2026, a significant event took place at memorial complex “Khatyn”: the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding architect and one of the authors of Khatyn, Leonid Levin.

The event became an important milestone in preserving the historical memory of Belarus and a tribute to the creative legacy of the great master.

Leonid Levin, Honored Architect of the Republic of Belarus, Lenin Prize laureate, and two-time recipient of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, is associated with the creation of iconic memorials that have become symbols of national identity and pride for the Belarusian people. Among his most famous works are Memorial Complex “Khatyn”, Memorial “Hole”, the Memorial Complex for Children Victims of War in Krasny Bereg, the reconstruction projects for Trinity Suburb, the Upper Town, the historic Nemiga, Minsk Metro station, and many other locations.

Guests from all corners of the republic gathered at the exhibition opening to honor the memory of the great master and pay tribute to his work.

"We have gathered here, on the sacred Khatyn land for every Belarusian, to touch the legacy of a person whose name is more than just a line in history for our country. 'Wait a while, and you will understand everything' – these lines by Leonid Levin have become an epigraph not only to our exhibition but to his entire, amazing, multifaceted life," noted Dmitry Viltovsky, Director of SMC “Khatyn”.

Leonid Levin's daughter, Galina Levina, was also present. She donated memorabilia associated with her father to the museum's foundation: Leonid Levin's tie and first editions of chapters from his autobiographical novella "Khatyn." In her speech, Galina Levina shared memories of her father and noted: "Today we present another facet of Leonid Levin's work, one unknown to many. He always painted. And it is a great honor for me that we can present these works here at Khatyn today." These words underscore the importance of the exhibition as an opportunity to see Levin not only as an architect but also as a talented artist whose work also deserves attention.

The exhibition offers viewers a new perspective on Leonid Levin—it presents him not only as a great architect, but also as a man with a deep inward, capable of conveying his feelings and thoughts through painting and poetry.

The ceremony concluded with a tour of the museum and the memorial complex, which provided guests with the opportunity to delve deeply into the history of the site and understand the fundamental role of preserving historical truth for future generations.

Please, visit the exhibition at Memorial Complex “Khatyn” Museum! This is a unique opportunity to experience the legacy of this great architect and artist, learn more about his life and work, and experience the spirit of the times he captured in his works.
